Pioneers were there as early as 1804 and Lambton County’s first post office opened in Mooretown in 1837.By the middle of the 19th century it had 17 businesses, including a sawmill and a flourmill.
Some 450 people lived in the village, although its population was down to just 100 by 1925.It has rebounded in the last half of the 20th century, with Moore Township building its municipal offices, a sports complex and a museum there.
